Conservation status of coastal dolphins in the Northern Territory

This was a Northern Territory-run offset program which commenced in July 2014 and was completed in June 2017.

The scope of the offset program was to deliver robust scientific data to support the assessment of the regional conservation status of all species of coastal dolphins. The project also strengthened evidence-based decision-making for evaluating future environmental impact assessments.

Project outcomes included:

  • Improved understanding of habitat use and distribution of coastal dolphin species.
  • Assessment of the regional conservation status of coastal dolphin species in the NT waters.
  • Improved data accessibility to relevant stakeholders.
