Our Australian new energy business is supporting a more sustainable tomorrow.

Enel Green Power Australia

In 2023, INPEX officially finalised the purchase of 50% of shares in Enel Green Power Australia (EGPA). Under this acquisition, INPEX jointly control EGPA with Italian Utility company Enel S.p.A.

EGPA is currently engaged in renewable energy operations including wind, solar, storage and hybrid projects across Australia, alongside expanding its activities in innovative solutions within its retail and trading operations.

This acquisition of shares in EGPA significantly marks INPEX’s entry into a diverse renewable energy market and commitment to investing in Australia, one of INPEX’s core business areas.

Wheatbelt Connect

Wheatbelt Connect is a collaborative project between INPEX, ANZ, Qantas and rural landowners that creates opportunities for native revegetation and carbon farming alongside current land uses, with the possibility of producing biomass for processing into renewable biofuels.

Landowners can play a vital role in decarbonising Australia to reach the nation’s net zero goals. The challenge ahead needs collaboration, where Australian regional communities have a seat at the table towards a sustainable future.

Bonaparte Carbon Capture and Storage

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a proven technology that can avoid carbon dioxide from being emitted into the atmosphere by sequestering it deep underground safely and permanently.

INPEX holds a 53 per cent participating interest as Operator of a greenhouse gas storage assessment permit (title G-7-AP) with TotalEnergies CCS Australia Pty Ltd (26%) and Woodside Energy Ltd (21%), in a joint venture known as Bonaparte CCS Assessment.

The permit was awarded following Australia’s 2021 Offshore Greenhouse Gas Storage Acreage Release and is in the Bonaparte Basin off the northwestern coast of the Northern Territory of Australia – an area considered to be promising for geological storage of carbon dioxide in service of CCS activities.

The Bonaparte CCS project could provide the opportunity for a large-scale multi-user carbon storage hub strategically located on the doorstep of Asia.
